Wyong Road (MR335) is approximately 11.5km long and is the main east-west arterial along the southern fringe of Tuggerah Lakes on the New South Wales Central Coast. Carrying up to 46000 vehicles a day, Wyong Road links the M1 Pacific Motorway at the Tuggerah Interchange to the eastern coastal suburbs and Central Coast Highway at Long Jetty.
Roads and Maritime Services proposed upgrade of several intersections along Wyong Road that would provide major benefits to the Central Coast community including improved safety and reduced travel time.
The upgrade at the intersection of Wyong Road, Enterprise Drive and Chittaway Road involved replacing the existing roundabout with traffic lights to improve traffic flow and safety, while catering for future traffic growth.
The Wyong Road and Enterprise Drive intersection at Berkeley Vale with the building tender awarded to BMD Constructions Pty Ltd today. Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast, Scot MacDonald MLC said BMD Construction Pty Ltd will start work to replace the existing roundabout with traffic lights to improve traffic flow and safety on the major intersection upgrade next month. “The NSW Government has allocated $28 million for the upgrade of Wyong Road and Enterprise Drive intersection,” Mr MacDonald said. “Roads and Maritime Services started early work in December last year including site establishment and utility relocation to prepare for major work for the intersection upgrade. “This project is aimed at easing congestion at the intersection to provide more reliable travel times during peak hours for the more than 48,000 motorists using this intersection daily. “The work includes building new turning lanes between Enterprise Drive and Wyong Road, from Chittaway Road into Wyong Road and from Wyong Road into Enterprise Drive. “Cyclists and pedestrians will also benefit with shared pathways being provided on both sides of Wyong Road and along Enterprise Drive to Hereford Street.” This upgrade work is expected to start next month and completed in late 2016, weather permitting.
